I've been busy.
OK so I’m a delinquent blogger, this is not news. What is news is why I’ve been delinquent this time. What happens when you combine and economic recession, a housebound graphically inclined SAHD, a new Roller Derby obsessed working Mom, and the Internet? SKULLS+RAINBOWS ! That’s what. In an effort to stave off the hard economic times SugarMomma and I decided to get...

Flu-a-palooza continues.
Day 5 in Flu-a-palooza is going great. We have moved out of bed, but still in jammies. We’re eating applesauce and crackers and living by the waterbottle, so good there too. The sun is shining, not too cold and a moderate night’s sleep.  Rock on.

5.
4 Years ago today I quit my job and started working. ThingTwo turned 5 yesterday. Upon opening her presents one of which was a pretty party dress, she says to me, “Daddy, I’m going to wear this dress on my first day of kindergarten!”. Now I know all you Moms out there are welling up with the bittersweet feeling that your little girl is growing up so fast… and where did the...

Insult, meet Injury.
What do you call it when your longish-haired dog gets the runs in the winter? There’s nothing quite like trying to wipe your dogs shaggy ass before he goes and sits on the carpet. Good times…

6 More days...
Why would a schoolboard think that giving kids the week BEFORE Christmas off is a good thing? I mean, parents don’t get the week before Christmas off, what are you supposed to with your kids? How do you keep them busy for a week before they get presents? And, how are parents supposed to get all the “things” that need doing, done, with kids underfoot for a whole week before...

Firsts.
I am excited today. One of my best friends in the world is finally dragging his ass west of High Park and coming out to see me. He has not seen ThingOne since she looked like this: She now looks like this: So it’s been awhile. It’s also the first time he will visit our new place in BC, and the first of our friends from back east to do so.  It’s also a good day because...

And the hits just keep on coming...
When it rains it pours, isn’t that what they say? Once again I ask, who are “they”, and for the record would they please shut up! This spring has seen a steady string of minor disasters. OK, so I’m being dramatic but I think I’ve earned it. I think it started with the oven, anything before that I must be suppressing at this point. The oven, well it’s dead, so we...

T-Minus 1 day....
It’s Friday night, almost Saturday, essentially the day before Father’s Day. For weeks now my older daughter has been asking me “Daddy, what do you want for Father’s Day?” Every time she asks me, I struggle to answer. On any given day it could be different, but what do I want? Ultimately, time, patience, wisdom, inspiration, and…sleep. Some of which she can give...

Summers coming. Time to get learnin'.
Turmoil surrounds me as summer approaches, lots of choices to be made. I know I haven’t shared much lately but, I’ve been busy ok? My main focus has shifted from SAHD to WAHD and It’s tough to keep up with everything. My fledgling little business is getting busier (is that how you spell busy-er?) and all of my free time is spent working on it. I am pretty much a one man show and...

The Fantastic Fours - The Battle Continues
So I asked the Venerable “Dear WeaselMomma” over at Dad-Blogs for some help with my increasingly Tyrannical 4yr old. Her advice was sound, but I feel like I must expand the scenario. In her defence the examples I gave of this behaviour were simple ones and her suggestions for dealing with them were good, but I’ve already exhausted those tactics. So let’s set the stage. ...

Why?-Fi and the BlueTooth Fairy.
New computers, and old computers, living together, sometimes in harmony. We have a few computers and not all are on the same frequency, if you know what I mean. 802.11b vs 802.11g and all that. My computer lives mostly in my office and is connected to the interwebs by a cable, but occasionally ventures upstairs to the kitchen table to hang out near the other computers. I also almost exclusively...

GO TEAM CANADA!
Welcome to The Gold Medal Sunday edition of Big Bad Daddy Rant. Sunday morning, Hockey morning,  and it feels like nobody has talked or thought about little else since the buzzer sounded against Slovakia, which I have to admit was a little unnerving, but truly Canadian. We don’t believe in easy.  We believe in Hard Work, from the ground up. Do I want to see Canada win the Gold Medal today?...

I Believe, eh!
Canadian women. what can I say. Our Canadian women have made us proud once again! I am not a huge sports fan, but I do like the Olympics, especially the Winter Olympics. I have found myself watching quite a few of the events and am amazed at the performances of the Canadian Women. Being a father of two daughters, the elder of which has taken an interest in the games, it adds a new perspective on...

Reply with a photo. Try it, it’s new! and only available for the next 48 hours.. While not exactly strange in and of itself, I believe it is the marker of a semi-secret local society and I have no clue how it came to be on the floor of my van. What is the strangest thing on the floor of your car?

BBD is BACK!
So, after a pathetic year for BBDR in 2009, I’m ready to party like it’s 199…… I mean 2010. I have changed my title from SAHD to SWAHD and am trying to bring some wisdom back into my life by “getting over myself” and getting back to talking about what the hell is licking my ass this week. I was at a workshop yesterday talking to another guy about trying to work...

Site warming.
So Big Bad Daddy Rant has moved into some new digs. I’m not completely unpacked yet but it shouldn’t be long. In the meantime, I want to know how other Dads are dealing with 7ish year old daughters. How are you relating to ballet, and violin, and someone who wants your love and attention, but won’t actually explain anything too you when you don’t understand. Any thoughts?
